Opstera extends line of operations management tools with CloudGraphs dashboard, providing deep insights into the quality of service for cloud platforms
Bellevue, WA — May 16, 2012 —Today, Opstera – a cloud-based health management and capacity optimization provider – announced a new online dashboard called CloudGraphs, designed to monitor quality of service (QoS) for cloud platforms such as Windows Azure. The dashboard offers Windows Azure customers additional visibility and new metrics related to Microsoft Corp.’s cloud platform in real time, providing a new level of control and assurance. Over time, CloudGraphs will expand to provide data on the availability and performance of additional cloud services. The new dashboard is an important component of Opstera’s vision of providing customers with an end-to-end view of their entire cloud operations which includes health management of the cloud platform, the application itself, and the related third-party services.
Some parts of Windows Azure have been experiencing service disruptions for the last couple of hours – mostly in the Asian datacenters. This is mostly impacting Azure Storage and Service Management as of now but we are closely monitoring other services.

We have spent the last 6 months building, deploying, tweaking and running the AzureOps service on Azure. And before that we spent 3 years helping 65+ customers understand how to architect & design applications on Azure. As you can imagine, we were spending quite a bit on Azure. With 4 subscriptions and every subscription exceeding the default quotas, we had to take a good look at keeping our costs low.
So here are 5 simple things that we did to manage our costs before and even more so currently, as we have several deployments running for AzureOps across 4 different Azure Data Centers. Most of these can be done in an automated manner, either through Powershell cmdlets or through 3rd party tools like ours.
