Windows Azure Services Disruption – April 28 Update

Some parts of Windows Azure have been experiencing service disruptions for the last couple of hours – mostly in the Asian datacenters. This is mostly impacting Azure Storage and Service Management as of now but we are closely monitoring other services.

Five ways to reduce Azure Costs

We have spent the last 6 months building, deploying, tweaking and running the AzureOps service on Azure. And before that we spent 3 years helping 65+ customers understand how to architect & design applications on Azure. As you can imagine, we were spending quite a bit on Azure. With 4 subscriptions and every subscription exceeding the default quotas, we had to take a good look at keeping our costs low.

So here are 5 simple things that we did to manage our costs before and even more so currently, as we have several deployments running for AzureOps across 4 different Azure Data Centers. Most of these can be done in an automated manner, either through Powershell cmdlets or through 3rd party tools like ours.
